Blog – How do Janie’s actions with Tea Cake reflect her ideas about love as opposed to those ideas that Nanny, or others who grew up in slavery, valued?

For Nanny and others who grew up in slavery what they wanted most was safety and protection and to be able to sit hight up on a pedistal like the white mistress, materialsim was everything to them because they had nothing. So when Janie became of age Nanny wanted to marry her off to some well to do guy that would be able to support her so she would be able to sit up high like nanny wanted to. Janie however feels that true love and affection are more important than financial stability and wealth, she already had been married to 2 very well off men and she has come to realize that the dream of sitting up on the porch all nice and fancy like wasn't all it was made up to be, and that when it came down to it she wasn't happy even tho she had all that stuff
