Blog – When they arrive in the Everglades, Janie is quick to work beside Tea Cake on the muck. How does this compare to the way she worked with Logan and Jody?
Tea Cake views Janie more as an equal and he feels that she is fully capable of doing work out in the fields, he also wants her to work with him in the fields so they can always be together because he loves her and hates being away from her. This is different from Jody and Logan in that Jody thought Janie was to good for just about everything except sitting around and looking pretty, Jody had her work in the store not because he loved her and wanted to be around her but so he could watch her and make sure she was making him look good. Logan thought Janie was capable of doing some of the work he did but the only reason he wanted her to help was because he needed an extra hand to help out around the place and to take off some of his work load. So the difference between Jody and Logan compared to Tea Cake is that Tea Cake loves Janie and her company whereas with Jody and Logan they just needed her for there own selfish purposes.
