Janie and the Mule

Why does Janie care about the mule so much?

I feel that the reason Janie cares so much about the mule is because she is sort of in the same position. She's not being tormented out in the open like the mule was but she is being controlled by joe just like the mule was controlled by Matt, and I think thats why she's sympathetic to the mule because she nows what its like to be controlled and manipulated. She isn't being physically abused like the mule was but i think she's being emotionaly abused by joe and that he's constantly tearing her down and destroying her spirit.
