Blog – What does Griggs mean by ‘learn how to live in the south’?
Griggs is reffering to the social codes of the south. He’s basically telling Richard that this is how things are in the South and if you want to fit in/live you’ll have to follow these social codes that are basically set up by race. He’s saying that whites like to be in charge and in the south if you’re black than that automatically makes you inferior, and there is nothing you can do about it, except submit to the whites cause that’s what they want.
