Why does Joe decide to master time? How does he do it?
Joe does not really need to obey the laws of time for the most part because he doesn’t do anything but lie on his back because that’s all he really can do. However he doesn’t like being cut off from the rest of society, which the rest of society has to obey the laws of time. So Joe feels that if he can master time, in a way he could reconnect with society. Joe first tries to count every second of every miniute, and every min. of every hour and every hour of every day but in the end he couldn't realistically do that and realized it was to difficult of a goal. So instead he started measuring time by the intervals in which the nurses visited him, and he also judged when it was dawn by the sunlight he could (or at least he thought) he could feel on his neck.
