Journal #4 Rob and his ex-girlfriends

In this section, Rob goes back to speak with all of his ex-girlfriends. What answers is he looking for? Does he get them? What does the outcome of this exercise tell you about Rob?
I think Rob is trying to figure out why he keeps failing at relationships. I think he's wallowing in self pitty and he feels that if he knew how they were doing and if he knew the reason for why they left him he would feel better. However he seems to be rather selfish and self-centered. When he hears that his first ex girl friend is married to the guy she left him for he feels better because he's like Oh it was fate therefore its not his fault. When it comes to Sarah, Penny, and Charlie I feel that he is being a bit of a jerk because he almost seems happy about the negative things that are going on in their life, and he uses these things to make him feel better about himself, if he really cared about them he would want them to be happy not miserable, he's only going about meeting with them so he can feel better about his own failing life, thats also probably why he fails at relationships he only focuses on himself and not the well being of the person he's with. One is only truly happy when focusing on the happiness of others rather than their own. He at one point makes a comment about one of his exes and how he wanted to absolve them or something like that, and to me that just proves how self centered Rob is. Its like she broke up with u get over it she doesn't need your forgiveness you didn't even care about her all the much in the first place especcially with that attitude. Any way i think this little excersize of Rob's just shows us even more how self-centered he is.

I agree--especially about the part where he seemed to be happy when things were going badly for his exes. Jerk!! :)
